Chancellor Scholz builds up basketball players

Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke encouraging words to the German basketball players after the defeat in the semi-finals of the European Championships at home.

“Shined, fought. Up to the last second,” wrote the SPD politician on Twitter: “Respect for your performance. Now get the bronze medal!”

Captain Dennis Schröder’s team lost 91:96 (51:46) against world champions Spain in Berlin on Friday. On Sunday (5:15 p.m. / RTL and MagentaSport) it’s bronze against Poland, the third medal after gold in 1993 and silver in 2005.

Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock watched the game in the sold-out Mercedes-Benz Arena in the evening. “The atmosphere in this hall is great. The guys are just incredible,” said Baerbock during the break on RTL.
