Chanceless FC Volendam bows head to Feyenoord

FC Volendam was not able to stunt at home against Feyenoord. From the first minute, the team had to stop the Rotterdam team. In the end, the Volendam team got away well with 0-2.

In a sold-out house, both teams started the game convincingly. Volendam did not hesitate to play football, but Feyenoord was the most threatening in the first ten minutes. Via Sebastian Szymanski, Danilo and Lutsharel Geertruida, the danger passed in front of keeper Filip Stankovic, who immediately distinguished himself.

The pressure from Feyenoord ultimately proved fatal to Volendam after fifteen minutes of play. Danilo was free in the box with a cross, was able to accept and calmly push in the 0-1. It was only after almost half an hour that trainer Wim Jonk’s team was able to score the first chance. A free kick by Darryl van Mieghem sailed just over the goal of Feyenoord keeper Justin Bijlow.

To prevent

Before the break, Volendam could count itself lucky that the damage was not too bad. Xavier Mbuyamba almost tapped a cross into his own goal, but saw the bar save. Dean James, who replaced the ailing Derry John Murkin, made another bet from the line. It was three minutes before halftime. A deeply controlled Szymanski shot the ball into the corner from outside the box: 0-2. Just before that, the Pole had already missed a great chance.

Volendam thanks Stankovic

In the second half, the game went out of control. Haarlemmer Orkun Kökçü became dangerous, his long shot was touched and went just over the goal. In the counterpunch, Volendam had two small chances through substitutes Lequincio Zeefuik and Oskar Buur. It was mainly thanks to the outstanding Stankovic that the score was not higher. He made an excellent save on a good chance for Santiago Giménez. Carel Eiting could have made it exciting, but he also failed.

FC Volendam remains the red lantern bearer in the Eredivisie with six points due to the defeat. Cambuur has eight points, but has played one game less. Next Saturday FC Utrecht will be the last opponent before the World Cup stop.
