The negative record remains that of Sivori, Boniperti and Charles, defeated in Vienna by Wiener Sc. Followed by 3 defeats for Roma: 7-1 against United and Bayern and 6-1 against Barcelona

Not that it can be any consolation for Antonio Conte and Napoli, but the 2-6 achieved in Eindhoven is not an absolute record – obviously in a negative way – for an Italian team in the Champions League, including when it was still called the Champions Cup. The record remains with Juventus, who in the ’57-58 edition recorded a 0-7 win against Wiener Sc (a club that now plays in the Regionalliga Ost, the third Austrian series) at the Ernst Happel stadium in Vienna, with Hamerl’s poker. However, it wasn’t just any Juve given that Boniperti, Charles and Sivori were on the pitch.

Rome

In this ranking where it is better to be at the bottom than at the top, after Juve we find Roma. Three times. The first, in chronological order, is the 7-1 defeat at Old Trafford in 2006-07 against United. Followed by another 1-7, this time at the Olimpico against Bayern Munich in the 2014-15 edition. The following year there was a 6-1 win at Camp Nou against Barcelona. Behind the Giallorossi, there is Inter with the 5-0 defeat by PSG, particularly painful because they reached the last final, the worst margin of defeat in the history of the last act of the most prestigious cup of the Old Continent.

Atalanta-Liverpool also ended the 2020-21 season five-nil. Instead, there were four goals, but always with 5 conceded, this time to 1, by the Goddess at Manchester City in 2019-20. Just as 4 (to zero) were those taken by the Bergamo players in Zagreb by Dinamo in the same season. There is also the 7-time champion Milan in this disastrous ranking: in ’59-60 they lost 5-1 against Barcelona in Catalonia. Another 5-1 was the one Inter took at San Siro against Arsenal in 2003-04, to complete this negative top 10.
