VfB is eliminated by a 1: 4 against PSG. The ex-Dortmund Dembelé hits triple.

Mascot Fritzle rubbed his eyes sadly after the final whistle, the fans celebrated despite the hearty defeat: VfB Stuttgart missed the play-offs of the Champions League against a highly superior Paris Saint-Germain. The runner-up was defeated by the Top Club with triple scorer Ousmane Dembelé on the last matchday of the league with 1: 4 (0: 3) and did not make the jump under the top 24.

Bradley Barcola (6th) and the outstanding ex-Dortmund Dembelé (17th, 35th, 54th) met for free French for the first half, VfB benefited only from a late own goal by Willian Pacho (77.). Despite all the efforts, Stuttgart never really found access to the French ball artists, who are now on 11/12. and 18./19. February fight for the round of 16.

“Of course we are all disappointed,” said coach Sebastian Hoeneß at “DAZN”: “We hoped that we will achieve more today. But I’m proud of the boys. Today we saw what the world tip is, you have to go envy recognize.”

Even before the game, it was clear that both teams would be a tie to progress, but they didn’t want to know anything about a “non -aggression pact” at VfB. “Paris will play the game so that they win it at best. And we too,” said Hoeneß.

Dembélé gets the preliminary decision with a third goal

Nevertheless, VfB began behavior – and unfocused. Completely without an opposing pressure, Atakan Karazor played a wrong pass into the goal in front of his own penalty area. At the due corner, Barcola was released on the second post – and overcame Fabian Bredlow with the first chance, who represented the Cold Alexander Nübel in Stuttgart Tor.

A shock for VfB, which initially seemed to recover well. At least Chris Leaders (12th, 16th) had the equalizer on the foot twice, but failed due to Gianluigi Donnarumma. While Hoeneß on the side of the side encouraged the audience to whip the team further forward, PSG knew how to use the now much more active field position of VfB ice cold.

Once again it was the strong Barcola who escaped Josha Vagnoman on the left and found this time in the center of Dembelé. An offside whistle initially gave VfB hope, but the Var gave the goal. Stuttgart was now of the role and found no access at all, very different from PSG.

Especially the Paris Sturm trio around Barcola, Dembelé and Désiré Doué kept combining it into the last third. The latter initially failed on the brilliantly reacting Bredlow (33rd), but at the end of Dembelé the Stuttgart goalkeeper was again powerless shortly afterwards.

VfB came out of the break with plenty of motivation and tried a quick connection. As in the first half, however, any offensive efforts crashed into the strong Paris defense. On the other hand, Dembelé made everything clear with his third goal. Only shooting aid in another place was able to save VfB, but it didn’t come.
