The Schwerin volleyball players missed the surprise in the Champions League group game at Eczacibasi Istanbul. The Mecklenburg women kept up well with the undefeated co-favorites on Tuesday, but ultimately lost 0:3 (17:25, 23:25, 18:25).

After the third defeat in the fourth game, the SSC has to worry about reaching the quarter-finals and is only in third place in Group B. In the Champions League, the winners of the five groups of four reach the quarter-finals directly, the runners-up and the best third team compete against the other participants in play-offs.

Schwerin had already lost the first leg against the top Turkish club 3-0, but at least stood up to the favorites in their own hall for two sets. Despite the Bundesliga club’s 3-1 start in the first set, the second leg quickly took the expected course. The hosts dominated the action and clearly won the first round.

18:16 lead in the second set

Head coach Felix Koslowski’s team quickly fell behind in the second half, but gained an 18:16 lead after a 7-0 run. In the final phase, however, Istanbul acted more effectively again and prevented the guests from winning the set.

The third sentence brought the decision. Schwerin got off to a better start again, but it wasn’t enough to achieve more. Istanbul finally pulled ahead to 20:15 and couldn’t let their lead be taken away.

Levallois Paris SC arrives on January 8th

On January 8th (6 p.m.) the SSC continues with the home game against Levallois Paris SC in the Champions League. In the Bundesliga, the Schwerin women will play against VfB 91 Suhl next Saturday (7 p.m.).
