The German handball champions SC Magdeburg suffered their second defeat in the Champions League.

At the Danish champions GOG Svendborg, the people from Elbestadt lost 32:33 (16:13) despite being in the lead at half-time. Best Magdeburg shooters were Gisli Kristjansson and Kay Smits with ten goals each. Magdeburg is still in third place in Group A, but is already three points behind second place.

Magdeburg had to do without Omar Ingi Magnusson (surgery) and Philipp Weber (ill). In Mike Jensen and Michael Damgaard, two SCM players returned to their former club, while goalkeeper Tobias Thulin has an SCM past at GOG. With early saves, this ensured that Magdeburg was three goals behind.

Magdeburg stabilized the defense and led in the fast-paced game after a 4-0 run for the first time, but only for a short time. Afterwards, the teams were on an equal footing with slight advantages for the SCM at halftime. After the break, GOG turned the game around (18:19/37.) because the SCM was too unfocused. Mainly thanks to Kristjansson and Smits, the SCM stayed in the game and conceded the 32:33 with the final siren.
