The evening started quietly with a goalless draw between Kairat Almaty and Pafos, but FC Barcelona made up for a lot with a big 6-1 victory against Olympiakos.

It was the starting signal for many more spectacles. Manchester City kept it modest with an economical 0-2 win at Villarreal, but Arsenal already won 4-0 against Atlético Madrid. A painful evening for the Spaniards.

And it didn’t stop there. The Belgian Union also lost with the same score against Inter. Dortmund also put four in the basket against FC Copenhagen, but also had to concede two. José Mourinho’s men did not have a very pleasant evening either: Benfica lost 3-0 on the field to the strong Newcaste United.

It already looks impressive, but the really big results are still to come. For example, PSV devoured Italian champions Napoli 6-2, but one poster was even more impressive in terms of goals. As icing on the already very nice cake, nine (!) goals were scored in the clash between Bayer Leverkusen and PSG. The Germans lost with a painful 2-7 on their own field.

An average of 4.8 goals were scored per match, just shy of another record. Exactly 9 years earlier – on October 21, 2014 – 40 shots were scored in eight matches: good for an average of 5 goals per match.
