FC Brugge and SSC Napoli are early in the round of 16 of the Champions League. In the Bayer Leverkusen group, a 0-0 draw at Atlético Madrid was enough for Belgian champions Bruges to make it into the top 16 for the first time in the club’s history.
Referee Danny Makkelie denied the leaders of Group B a penalty kick after checking the video images shortly before half-time on Wednesday evening. But the luckless Spaniards had the better chances, and even though they were outnumbered, they didn’t score. Brugge’s Kamal Sowah saw the yellow-red card (82′).
In Group A, Napoli beat Ajax Amsterdam 4-2 (2-0) at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. With their fourth win in four games, coach Luciano Spalletti’s team qualified early for the round of 16. Hirving Lozano (4th minute), Giacomo Raspadori (16th), Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (62nd/penalty) and Joker Victor Osimhen (89th) scored for the hosts. Former Bremen player Davy Klaassen (49th) and Steven Bergwijn (83rd / penalty kick) were successful for Ajax.
