AC Milan is in a good starting position in the fight for a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The Italian champions beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 (1-0) in the round of 16 first leg. Brahim Diaz (7th) scored the host’s goal. The second leg will take place in London on March 8th.

After the early lead, Milan with Under-21 international Malick Thiaw in the starting XI at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium withdrew. Tottenham had plenty of possession, but the visitors’ attacking game lacked pace and ideas. The 2019 Champions League finalist did not have a chance to score in the first round.

Milan initially stood securely after the change and waited for moments of change. Tottenham continued to struggle to stage goalscorer Harry Kane. But the AC also had little to offer on the offensive. However, Thiaw missed a big chance to make it 2-0 when he headed just wide of the goal (79th).
