Champions League, Matchday 4: Donetsk annoys Barcelona

As of: November 7th, 2023 8:41 p.m

One point would have been enough for FC Barcelona on Tuesday (November 7th, 2023) in Hamburg against Shakhtar Donetsk to reach the round of 16 of the Champions League early. Nothing came of it.

Danylo Sikan, 22, scored the only goal of the evening for Donetsk. Sikan, who played for Hansa Rostock in the 2nd Bundesliga from January to June 2022, scored with a header in the 40th minute to make the final score 1-0 (1-0).

“Barca” could have secured early progression by winning a point, but nothing came of it. Barcelona remain leaders with nine points, while FC Porto only play against Royal Antwerp in the evening. Donetsk can also dream of reaching the round of 16 after their second win in the fourth game.

Donetsk and home games that are not home games

Donetsk will play its home games in the premier class in Hamburg this season, although there can be no question of a home game. Coach Marino Pusic also sees it that way. He says: “You can’t call it a home game.”

The club has not played in Donetsk on the European stage since 2014. After the Russian attack on Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the club first moved to Warsaw and now to Hamburg. The game against Royal Antwerp from Belgium is scheduled for November 28th on the Elbe.
