In the semi-final first leg of the Champions League, FC Bayern lost a real spectacle against PSG. Lothar Matthäus is still optimistic.
Record-breaking national player Lothar Matthäus expects FC Bayern Munich to reach the final and is expecting another world-class performance in the second leg of the Champions League. “I’m assuming that Bayern will make it to the final, they were already the better team on Tuesday. We’ll see goals and an offensive spectacle again, they shouldn’t fall behind just three times like they did against Real,” wrote Matthäus in a column for the “Kicker” after FC Bayern’s 4-5 defeat in the first leg against Paris Saint-Germain.
Matthäus sees the hosts at an advantage for the second leg in Munich’s Allianz Arena next Wednesday. In Paris, FC Bayern seemed “totally superior physically”. “That could be the biggest plus for them in the second leg. I’m almost certain: PSG won’t be able to keep this pace in the Allianz Arena for more than 90 or maybe even 120 minutes,” wrote Matthäus. “They weren’t that stable defensively and ended up on their feet. Also because Luis Diaz and Michael Olise embody world class, in terms of sport you can rightly compare them with Arjen Robben and Franck Ribéry after their short time in Munich. An accolade!”
