Led by a shiny Kylian Mbappé, Real Madrid stormed into the round of 16 of the Champions League with a clear victory against Manchester City. PSG continues after a peat festival against Stade Brest.
Real Madrid – Manchester City 3: 1
Kylian Mbappé has led defending champion Real Madrid almost single -handedly to the round of 16 of the Champions League and degraded Manchester City to extras. The French top star scored all three goals (4th, 33rd, 61st) in the 3-1 victory of the “royal” in Bernabeu at home. The connection goal by Nico Gonzalez (90.+2) was without value.
Real had already won the first leg 3-2 at the “Skyblues”, the team of Pep Guardiola disappointed across the board. The aggregated overall result (6: 3) also clearly reflected the balance of power between the title girders of the past two years.
With the “royal”, national player Antonio Rüdiger stood again for the first time in the starting eleven after surviving injury. City coach Guardiola initially waived Haaland, who was probably struck on the bench.
In the absence of the Norwegian, Mbappé trumped up. The Frenchman used the first inattentiveness of the city defense with a fine lifter into the goal. The 2-0 was preceded by a great combination about Rodrygo, after a little more than a break, Mbappé was a solo for the final decision. Mancity struggled, but at no time you had the feeling that the harmless “Skyblues” could seriously falter the defending champion. Haaland substitute Omar Marmoush, hired by Eintracht Frankfurt in winter, was hardly seen.
Real is a possible round of 16 of Bayer Leverkusen, alternatively a duel with the city rival Atletico could be due.
Paris Saint -Germain – Stade Brest 7: 0
Paris Saint-Germain went one step further after the 3-0 first leg with Stade Brest in the Princes Parc and celebrated a 7-0 festival. For PSG it was the highest victory in the premier class to date, with seven different goal scorers: 1: 0 Barcola (20th) and Kvaratskhelia (39th) caused clear conditions before the break. Vitinha (59.), Doue (64.), Nuno Mendes (69th), Goncalo Ramos (76.), and Mayulu (86.) scored five more goals in the second round.
