Kai Havertz scores the early opening goal for Arsenal in the final against Paris Saint-Germain – and writes Champions League history. Only two German players have previously achieved something similar.

In the 6th minute, Kai Havertz scored the opening goal for Arsenal in the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest. He is the first German footballer to score in two different finals of the most important European club competition.

Havertz had already shot Chelsea FC to the title in 2021 with his goal in the final against Manchester City – the game ended 1-0. Before him, only Gerd Müller and Franz “Bulle” Roth had scored in two different finals of the top European competition. Both scored their goals for FC Bayern in the European Cup in the 1970s. The Champions League has been held since the 1992/93 season.

Havertz had previously told the British “Guardian”: “As a child, I never dreamed that I would score a goal in the final and win the game. I will always be proud of that. I just try to take this feeling with me and hope that it will happen again.”

The 26-year-old is missing from the DFB team’s penultimate World Cup test on Sunday in Mainz against Finland (from 8:45 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online). He is scheduled for the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada from June 11th to July 19th. Havertz also won the English championship with Arsenal this season.
