The Champions League draw in Nyon showed on Friday (February 21, 2025): It comes to the round of 16 Bayern Munich against Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund meets Lille OSC.
The Bundesliga leader Munich initially has home rights (March 4/5). The second leg takes place a week later in Leverkusen. They compete against each other for the fourth and fifth time this season after two league duels and a cup game.
FC Bayern is “A team that we know well, but Munich also knows us well”, said Leverkusen’s sports manager Simon Rolfes.
In the league, both teams separated goalless, but the Bayer team of coach Xabi Alonso was at home but the clearly superior team. In the quarter -finals, the winner of the German duel meets Feyenoord Rotterdam or Inter Milan and exposes the first leg at home.
Dortmund waves duel with Barcelona
The BVB also initially has home advantage in the round of 16 against Lille – which is ultimately considered a small disadvantage, since the decisive second leg then takes place away. Like Bayern, the previous year’s finalist had to take the detour via the play-offs.
“Even if we play the first leg at home, it is our aim and a clear goal to take this challenging hurdle and qualify for the quarter -finals”, said Dortmund’s sports director Sebastian Kehl.

Dortmund’s reunion with Meunier
The French should not be underestimated. “Lille is a very exciting opponent who was just ahead of us in the preliminary round final table”, Kehl said. He describes the team around the former Dortmund Thomas Meunier and Kylian Mbappé’s brother Ethan as “A very defensive team that only conceded one goal in Ligue 1 on average.”
In the quarter -finals, FC Barcelona with coach Hansi Flick or Benfica Lisbon would wait for BVB.
Madrid city derby, Paris against Liverpool
Other highlights of the round of 16 are the Madrid city duel between Real and Atlético and the game Paris Saint-Germain against Liverpool. Bayern-Munich legend Giovane Elber had pulled the lot balls.
