Chaam accident: mother (22) and daughter (2) in hospital, not heard yet

The mother who drove into a tree with her family in Chaam on Saturday has not yet been heard. The 22-year-old woman is seriously injured in hospital, as is her 2-year-old daughter. Her four-year-old sons were killed in the fatal accident.

The car ran off the road on the Oude Bredasebaan in Chaam and crashed into a tree next to the almost straight road. No other traffic was involved.

The investigation into the accident is still ongoing, police said. The woman has not yet been heard and is seriously injured in hospital, the police are not making any further statements about her medical condition.

Standard Investigations
Witnesses are being heard and a technical investigation is being conducted. “Everything is included in it. These are investigations into the car and also into the attachment of the child seats. These are standard investigations,” emphasizes a police spokesperson.

According to a neighbor, a car was behind the crashed car. “The people in that car told us that they were just driving fifty kilometers per hour. According to those people, the car just suddenly turned left. Out of nowhere.”

The police would like to speak to the woman, but already indicated over the weekend that her health and the dramatic situation she is in are now priority.
