ROma, Mar 3 (askanews) – for the centenary of the birth of Andrea Camilleri (6 September 1925) the Association of the Fondo Andrea Camilleri Ets – chaired by Andreina Camilleri who created her together with the two sisters Elisabetta and Mariolina and the writer’s wife, Rosetta dello Siesto – prepared, with the National Committee established by the Ministry of Culture, A program of activities that will take place in various Italian and foreign cities in 2025 and 2026 to celebrate the great Sicilian writer, Create opportunities for studying on him and the years of his training, on quality, characteristics and multiform aspects of his writing, initiating popular initiatives capable of involving a non -specialized audience, especially young people, promoting knowledge, starting a reflection on the history of Italy of the last hundred years and, in particular, on the present, at the center of numerous pages and significant interventions of the writer.
Centenary Camilleri, the events to celebrate 100 years from birth
The project, to which numerous personalities of culture, journalism, theater, television and radio have joined the collaboration of Rai (Main Media Partner) and the support of the Ministry of Culture, Siae (Main Sponsor), the Department of Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity and the Department of Tourism and Entertainment of the Sicilian Region.
Among the first scheduled events, on March 15 and 16 the preview at the Piccinni Theater in Bari – of which Andrea Camilleri was a stable director in the early sixties – of the show A Saturday, with friendstaken from the novel of the same name and on April 23 in Milan, to the Arnoldo and Alberto Mondadori Foundation – Casa Manzoni, “Camilleri 100”, a day of initiatives dedicated to the multiple talents and fortunes of the most read Italian author in the world, with the conference “Andrea Camilleri, from bestseller to Longseller”.

In addition, from 15 to 24 May the Italian Film Festival of Malaga (Fcimalaga), now in its eighth edition, will propose a tribute to Camilleri, while from 16 to 18 May in Messina, at the Vittorio Emanuele Theater, it will be staged The color of the sun “ The work in an act, freely taken from the novel of the same name of Camilleri, with music by Lucio Gregoretti.
The young Camilleriedited by Feludadio, at the Argentina Theater in Rome on May 19, will be dedicated to the process of formation of the writer, while the seminar will be held on 26 and 27 May, promoted by the Department of Humanities of the Roma Tre University, “From the Archive to the writer, from the writer to the Archive: among the cards of Andrea Camilleri”, on the documentation produced and preserved by Camilleri starting from his youth team.
Events in Sicily but also abroad for the centenary of Camilleri
Many events will be held in Sicily, from Agrigento to Ragusa Ibla, as well as abroad, from March to December 2025: “Camilleri in the world”, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, will tell the international dimension of the writer translated into forty different languages with appointments in culture institutes of various cities from Addis Ababa to Athens, from Cologne to Lyon, from Madrid to New York.
In addition to the editorial initiatives of Sellerio – including a selection of his work in 12 books chosen by joining the most loved to others less known, introduced by writers on the national and international scene – among other things Rai Documentary, has in preparation the realization of a documentary on Andrea Camilleri by Francesco Zippel.
