Cell for aggravated assault in Emmen home

A 28-year-old man from Emmen was sentenced to 205 days in prison, 90 of which were suspended, for attempted aggravated assault. Two men suffered facial fractures. The punishment is equal to the requirement of the Public Prosecution Service (OM).

On July 25, the agents responded to an argument that got out of hand in a house on the Klepel in Emmen. The group that was there had just returned from a festival in Emmen. The household goods were smashed to smithereens and two men had serious facial injuries.

This was due to an outburst of anger from the 28-year-old Emmenaar, they said. He in turn stated that he was hit with a piece of concrete when he came there to pick up his scooter. He had to defend himself, he told the judge two weeks ago. His story was not substantiated and the judge did not find that there had been any serious defence.

The resident of Emmen was also accused of destroying the household goods, but was acquitted. The judge does not think that the Emmenaar was solely responsible for this. The man would also have forced the resident to take 1000 euros from the safe and hand it over. There was also little evidence of this.

The man has now been in custody for 115 days and does not have to go back to the cell. He must, however, be treated by addiction care and undergo checks for alcohol and drugs.
