“What needs to be done to prevent this further,” the public prosecutor struggled with the question of how to proceed with the 71-year-old suspect from Assen who, according to her, continues to sexually harass young children. She demanded a prison sentence of one and a half years, of which six months were conditional.
She also demanded an area ban for all swimming lakes and swimming pools in the Netherlands, where he is apparently triggered to show his genitals. The man was arrested again in August last year for sexual corruption (or indecent behavior).
He allegedly harassed two nieces aged eight and nine in the swimming pool of the recreation park in Borger by showing his genitals.
The girls ran to their parents, who immediately reported the incident. The man from Assen was tried for the same offense at a swimming pool near Meppel in June 2025. There, a 14-year-old boy was confronted with the naked body of the suspect.
An eight-year-old neighbor girl in Assen also experienced the undesirable sight of his genitals every day from September 2024 to July 2025 when she took her bicycle out of the shed.
The man always stood naked in front of his bedroom window. The girl eventually told this to her brother. She called in their mother.
The man from Assen denies unexpectedly approaching these children sexually. He was convicted of the same in 2009 and 2021. This also happened at swimming pools and pools. The man says he was only present after descriptions matched him.
He was previously diagnosed with exhibitionism and pedophilic disorder. There are major concerns about his psychosocial functioning. Previously imposed treatments do not get off the ground because the gentleman is uncooperative and persistently denies.
The accuser blames the man heavily for not opening up: “Again treatment is pointless.” In most cases, the lawyer proposed an acquittal due to insufficient evidence.
The court will deliver its ruling on March 10.
