For two fights during a step evening on August 1, 2023 in Emmen, a 23-year-old man from Veendam was demanded a prison sentence of one and a half years, one year of which was conditional. He was the aggressor of his club, said the public prosecutor.
A former resident and resident of Ter Apel (22 and 24) should be given a community service sentence of 160 hours and 200 hours, with conditional imprisonment of two and three months. The 22-year-old man has been living in Germany for a month.
The suspects were put out of Club Limbo at four o’clock in the morning. The Veendammer is said to have lifted a girl and sat on her buttocks. This suspect denies this. The three friends oppose this removal from the case. The youngest would have been working to the ground.
The suspects touched the town hall in Emmen with a different group. One of them was seriously injured by stairs against the head. He ended up in the hospital where he had to undergo several operations for bone fractures in the face. The suspects do not deny the fight, but they had not kicked them.
The suspects continued with unconcerned by Emmen. On the Hoofdstraat they met the girl from the club, which would have been lifted by the Veendammer. She attacked this man furiously. Her friends were successful with the suspects from Veendam and Ter Apel. One of the girl’s friends was injured and knee wounded and ran two broken fingers. This fight was recorded on camera images.
The suspects did not deny this time. “The entertainment violence remains a scourge,” said the public prosecutor. According to the prosecutor, the suspect from Veendam was guilty of serious abuse. “You would have kicked as if you were taking a penalty. Low and full in the face,” said the public prosecutor. That is why he demanded a stronger punishment against the 23-year-old.
In the eyes of the prosecutor, De Veendammer is the aggressor in this case. “Without you, these incidents would probably not have taken place.” According to him, both co -suspects were guilty of ‘open violence’. In addition, this two, unlike the man from Veendam, had no criminal record.
The case suffered a year too long and the public prosecutor must take that into account. A compensation of almost a tonne has been submitted and according to him it is assignable. The lawyers of the suspects do not see sufficient evidence for a conviction. Moreover, the lives of the suspects have changed positively and the penalties required would be too heavy a burden.
The decision about the case is on September 30.
