Céline Dion is making a comeback to the concert stages this year.
In 2008, Céline Dion was on tour in Germany when she suddenly had a seizure during breakfast.
– I was having breakfast and suddenly I started to feel a cramp. Voice training made the situation worse, Dion opened up to People magazine in the summer of 2024.
Dion had suffered from severe cramps and pains before. They had influenced the movement and singing of the Canadian star.
Over the years, Dion had searched for an explanation for his condition. Undiagnosed, he tried to treat himself in many ways, from steam showers to painkillers.
As the symptoms worsened, Dion was advised to resort to prescription drugs. The singer resorted to Valium, for example, which is used to treat panic disorder, insomnia and epileptic seizures, among other things.
Dion said that he started the medication with two milligrams, but increased the amount of the drug gram by gram.
At her worst, Dion took 90 milligrams of the drug at a time to get through one show.
– It could have killed me. I did not question the amount because I was not familiar with the medicine. I thought I would be fine. It worked for a few days or weeks, and then it stopped working, Dion said.
– I didn’t realize that I could have gone to sleep and stopped breathing. You learn from mistakes, Dion said.

The husband’s struggle overshadowed
Dion had health concerns, but she didn’t know what they were. In the midst of her own health challenges, the singer took care of her own spouse, René Angélilis. Angélil, who suffered from throat cancer, died in 2016.
– We didn’t know what was going on. I should have taken the time to find out, Dion said Today– program interview.
– My husband also fought for his own life. I had to raise my children. I had to hide. I had to be a hero, Dion described.
After the corona pandemic hit, Dion started looking for answers to his condition. A couple of years later, it dawned on the star what it was all about.

Diagnosis
In autumn 2021, Dion was ready to perform. Corona had prevented the performance of artists like artists – so also Dion.
When Dion was supposed to return to the stage, she made a surprise announcement. The star’s performance in Las Vegas would be postponed for health reasons. The reason was said to be strong muscle spasms, which prevented the performance.
In August, Dion finally got an explanation for his symptoms. It was about the stiffness syndrome.
– I have suffered from health problems for a long time and it has been difficult for me to face these challenges and tell about what I have been through, Dion said in December on her Instagram account, broken.
With the diagnosis, all of the singer’s appearances were cancelled. There were also gigs planned for Finland.
The disease has affected Dion’s life a lot. In an interview with the Today program, Dion said that singing has become extremely difficult.
– It feels like someone is strangling your throat like this, the singer illustrated with his hands.
– It feels like that even when talking. You cannot produce high and low sounds. It causes a cramp.
Dion illustrated the cramp by clenching his hand into a fist.
The disease has caused the star to have such severe cramps that even her bones have been broken.
– I have broken my ribs because of this, he said.

Back to the stage
Despite the illness, Dion had a strong will to get back in front of the public. In the Vogue France magazine, Dion described in the spring of 2024 how to treat her illness. The treatment program has included, for example, sports, physiotherapy and sound therapy.
– Either I train like an athlete and work really hard or I stop, stay at home, listen to my songs, stand in front of the mirror and sing to myself, Dion stated.
– I have chosen to work with my whole body and soul, head to toe with my medical team. I want to be the best I can be. My goal is to see the Eiffel Tower again!
Dion’s wish came true months later, when the singer performed for the first time after a long break. Dion’s interpretation by Édith Piaf Hymne a l’amour (Hymn to love) -song was loved by the world and moved many.

In spring 2025, short greetings from Dion were seen in the Eurovision semi-finals. It was later reported that Dion was supposed to perform at the pageant, but the performance was canceled due to health reasons.
However, now Dion’s illness seems to be at the point where the Canadian singer is ready for the stage again. At the end of March, the Canadian singer said that from September onwards, he will perform ten unprecedented shows in Paris, according to his own words.
The fans were excited by Dion’s announcement, and it seems that Dion herself is also excited. A singer star can tell you about it to Instagram written text.
– Paris, I’m ready!
