Under N-VA mayor Daphné Dumery, N-VA and CD&V worked together in the majority after the last municipal elections. In 2021, the other coalition partner Vooruit pulled the plug on the council of aldermen. Since then, Open Vld and Vooruit have jointly governed Blankenberge and Björn Prasse has been the liberal mayor.
Current municipal councilors Dumery and Buysschaert (CD&V) point out the contrast between the recent idea for the underground parking and the vision of the previous city council on the Grote Markt. The coalition under ex-mayor Dumery did not want an underground parking lot, but more greenery and a tram stop.
