MAINZ (dpa-AFX) – CDU election winner Gordon Schnieder will lead negotiations with the SPD about a government alliance in Rhineland-Palatinate. At a meeting of the state executive committee of the Christian Democrats, the state leader and CDU top candidate was officially commissioned to enter into talks with the SPD, said General Secretary Johannes Steiniger in the evening in Mainz.
The CDU wants to start talks relatively quickly. The Secretary General has not yet given a specific timetable. But it is not important to get results as quickly as possible. “It is important that what comes out is a reliable basis for the next few years,” emphasized Steiniger. “We need a stable state government.”
Personnel questions at the very end
There are no decisions yet about the future ministers in the future state government. First there would be talks with the SPD, then agreement on issues, including within the framework of coalition negotiations. The CDU is well prepared for the negotiations.
The personnel issues would only be clarified at the very end, said the Secretary General at the meeting of the state executive board, which was also attended by the President of the Bundestag and CDU member of the Rhineland-Palatinate CDU Bundestag, Julia Klöckner./glb/DP/jha
