The Dutch were 9.7 percent more expensive in March than a year earlier. It is the highest inflation since April 1976, reports the Central Bureau of Statistics.

Due to the war between Ukraine and Russia, already high prices have risen further. For example, prices for electricity, gas and district heating rose sharply, but food also became more expensive.

Last week, the statistical office announced that inflation in the Netherlands had risen to almost 12 percent.

However, the European harmonized method was used, which was created to allow a good comparison of inflation data from different European countries. Statistics Netherlands now comes up with the monthly figure according to its own calculation method.
