Who will fill the gap that Erica Terpstra (82) will leave behind once her last TV trip is over? Catherine Keyl (79) seems to be putting herself forward; she comes into the Story with a big travel report.
The question remains whether Erica Terpstra will ever be able to make her promised last TV trip for Omroep MAX. She wants to make a final episode in Mexico, but her health does not allow it for the time being. Will Jan Slagter hire someone to follow in her footsteps? In any case, Catherine Keyl has enough travel experience for this.
Catherine in Bhutan
Catherine is currently in the Story with a great account of her trip to Bhutan. “What was the deciding factor for me to go to Bhutan? It is the only country in the world where people are not concerned with the economy of a Gross National Product, but where it is about Gross National Happiness.”
According to her, most people don’t even know where that country is. “Funny, when I announced that I was going there, everyone asked: where is that actually? The most gambling was from Africa to China. The latter comes close: the kingdom of Bhutan overlooks the Himalayas and is located northeast of India next to Nepal.”
Other world
It would be nice if people learned more about Bhutan, says Catherine. “The arrivals hall looks like a temple. I see the first Bhutanese in national costume and I immediately know: everything is different here.”
How did she get on that land? “I was given the idea a long time ago by King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima who visited the special country in 2007, when they were still prince and princess, at the invitation of the royal family of Bhutan. So now it is my turn…”
Does Jan want this?
Is this all a veiled appeal to Jan to hire her mainly to follow in Erica’s footsteps? It just might be possible. One problem: Jan has had no need for Catherine at all since her bouts of diarrhea.
Long story short: Catherine once made his Omroep MAX big with her talk show, but the pressure was too high, causing her to have watery diarrhea attacks, after which he dropped her hard. Jan was very concerned about it, because Catherine was often criticized by him in the years that followed.
