Catherine Keyl still occasionally encounters fallen hit singer Marco Borsato in the wild, she reveals in the Weekend. What does she say to this alleged sex offender? “We’ll talk a bit.”

He is being prosecuted for indecency with an underage girl and that is no joke: the Marco Borsato case will finally be heard in court next year. In the meantime, his career has been at a standstill for years and that is of course completely fine if he is actually convicted, but what if he turns out to be completely innocent?

Inhuman

If Marco is not convicted, people will continue to have doubts, after all: is there not enough evidence or did it not happen? One thing is certain: Marco will no longer be as popular as he used to be, regardless of the outcome.

Catherine Keyl thinks it’s all horrible. “I only think one thing is bad in showbiz: that Marco Borsato still doesn’t know where he stands. This is slowly starting to look like inhumane practices,” she says in conversation with the Weekend.

Endless waiting

There needs to be clarity for Marco, Catherine believes. “In March it was announced that the case will not be heard until 2025, that endless wait is a punishment in itself. I know what it feels like when a lawsuit hangs over you like a gray cloud, it is extremely stressful.”

She is one of the few people who still regularly encounters the singer. “I don’t know Marco well personally, but a day after winning the Soundmix Show he came to see me in the Breakfast Show. I absolutely loved that at the time. I still run into him every now and then and we talk a bit.”
