Lausanne (AP) – Russian athletes and associations from seven sports have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) against their bans and exclusions imposed because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

This applies to football, biathlon, figure skating, gymnastics, rowing, rugby and speed skating, the Cas said on Tuesday in Lausanne.

One of the issues raised was UEFA’s decision to ban Russian football clubs and national teams from European competitions, including the women’s European Championship in England this summer. According to the Cas statement, the Russian Football Association withdrew its protest against the exclusion of its national team from the World Cup qualification (playoffs against Poland) at the end of March.

The Russian Olympic Committee is also challenging its exclusion from this year’s summer and winter festivals by the European Olympic Committee.

Only recently, the Cas had rejected corresponding Russian objections against the FIFA and UEFA decisions pending a final verdict. The Cas further announced that a timetable for the subsequent processes and the composition of the panels had not yet been decided.
