Carven appoints Louise Trotter as creative director and returns to the catwalk

Carven names Louise Trotter as creative director.

The British designer, who most recently worked as creative director at Lacoste for four years, will present her first collection for the French fashion label during Paris Fashion Week in September, Carven announced on Wednesday.

Trotter is the label’s first head designer since 2018, when Serge Ruffieux left the brand after just three seasons and the then insolvent fashion house was taken over by the Chinese Icicle Fashion Group Co., Ltd. was acquired. With Louise Trotter, the brand has now found the perfect candidate to revive carving, according to Managing Director Shawna Tao.

Louise Trotter’s Carven debut in September not only signals a new beginning for the brand, but also a return to the catwalk after a five-year absence from Paris Fashion Week.

“I’m honored to be writing a new chapter for Carven: a fresh French house that embodies for me a spirit of freedom, joy and confident femininity,” said Louise Trotter. The designer looks forward to honoring the legacy of Madame Carven, who died in 2015, and designing clothes that stand out through simplicity and respect both people and the environment.

In early January, Lacoste announced that Trotter would be leaving the brand after four years to “devote itself to other things”. The Brit was the first designer to hold the creative head post at the French brand. Previously, she was head designer at British label Joseph for nine years.
