SBS 6 gives Carry Tefsen that role in Medisch Centrum West, but does not spare her when it comes to the tough recording schedule. TV series are often shown early, very early, and the 87-year-old actress simply had to adapt to that. And she confesses in the Party that it was harder for her than she expected.
Seven o’clock
Those shooting days were really tough, says Carry. “What I hate are those early mornings. I have really become a bitch in the morning. I would prefer to do things in the afternoon, but that is not possible. The car is at the door at seven o’clock, to make maximum use of daylight.”
She sighs: “But that’s part of it, you have to use the light when recording. If you shoot a lot in a row, you automatically get into the rhythm, but the first days were tough.”
Tired
It would have been nice for Carry if they could have shot her scenes a little later. “When you get older and you get tired, you don’t recover as quickly as you used to. But I had so little to do that being tired wasn’t too bad.”
The amount of scenes was a bit disappointing for her. “I stayed in the Netherlands for a few months for those few shooting days, but I could have easily gone to Spain in between, it was that little, haha.”
Disappointed
Carry thought that SBS 6 would give her a bigger role. “I hope I don’t disappoint people after such a grand announcement. My role is small, I do very little in it. It is a doctor’s series and they asked if I wanted to join. There is a kind of greenhouse next to the hospital where people come to recuperate, that is my domain.”
“But the main thing is of course the doctors. I am there, but it is very little. It has been in the press with a lot of fanfare and I think: I hope I can please people. I have fans who maybe watch every evening with the idea ‘ha, now she is coming’, but sometimes I am not in it at all.”
Well-known name
In retrospect, Carry thinks she was mainly asked because of her famous name. “Yes, but does that surprise you? Because of my famous name and because I am of a certain age, people quickly think: oh, she still does that, how nice. But I cannot do more than what is in the script.”
Can’t they still give her some more material? “It was all already recorded, about two or three months ago.”
