Caroline van der Plas strengthens her friendly relationship with Martien Meiland now that it turns out that she is related to him. “We also went out for dinner recently, together with his wife Erica.”
The flamboyant politician Caroline van der Plas has seen her political party grow rapidly. A number of important figures in showbiz have also managed to attract her attention, including the men of Today Inside. She has now even built up a friendly relationship with none other than Martien Meiland.
No fake news
It all started two years ago, when Caroline and Martien were guests together in Raven van Dorst’s farm show. Last month it turned out that the two are related: Caroline’s great-great-grandparents are Martien’s great-grandparents. As a result, they have about 1 percent of the same gene.
According to Caroline, this is absolutely none fake news. She says in the Story: “On TikTok someone had figured that out and my family line is completely correct. I had already researched that myself, so then Martien’s line must also be correct and we are really family. I also sent Martien a message: We are family, yes!”
Same humour
According to Caroline, Martien is just as delighted about their genetic bond. Incidentally, it does not say much if two people have the same gene for 1 percent. A human has about 20 to 25 thousand genes, so 1 percent equates to about 200 to 250 genes. And much more genetic similarity is needed for striking similarities.
Yet they are both very enthusiastic. “He really liked it too. I met him last year when filming Boerderii van Dorst. That clicked immediately. We had the same humor.”
Been out for dinner
How is their friendship developing at the moment? “I attended his sixtieth birthday and recently went out for dinner with Martien and his wife Erica in Noordwijk.”
It is not inconceivable that Erica will join the BBB at some point. She has political ambitions and has often flirted with conservative parties, although she declined an offer from Wybren van Haga.
