Carnival song ‘Ladders Zat’ has to be taken offline because it is about alcohol

The carnival song Ladders Zat by Gullie and Lanterfantje must still be taken offline. During a conversation, the artists and record company Cloud 9 did not agree on Thursday. According to Cloud 9, which released the original version, this is mainly due to the theme of drinking alcohol.

“Yes, we are very sorry about that,” says Lanterfantje DJ Thomas van Groningen. “We do this because we care about carnival. We want fun carnival songs to be played during the biggest folk festival of the year. It is a pity that this record company thinks otherwise.”

Van Groningen still hopes that ‘all DJs in Brabant will continue to play the song during carnival’. The song is a parody of singer Claude’s ‘Ladada (Mon Dernier Mot)’. The Dutch artists decided to give it a fun twist for the upcoming carnival.

Alcohol
Record company Cloud 9 has already had the song removed from Spotify. “Ladders Zat” can still be heard on some platforms, including YouTube and TikTok, but according to Cloud 9, “a request has been made everywhere to take the song offline.”

In a response, Cloud 9 explains that this new theme is not appreciated by the rights holders, such as the producers and writers of the original. The record company denies that it does not want the song to be used as a carnival song.

“We understand the disappointment. Yet it has nothing to do with carnival. We are talking about the theme of drinking alcohol. The text has been changed without permission. That’s why we went for it,” said a spokesman.
