THE members of the Afro-Brazilian religions perform the so-called Lavagem do sapucaia traditional Sambodrome purification ritual, in preparation for the next parade of carnival in Rio de Janeiro. Participants underline the importance of this ritual for the opening of the catwalk and to provide positive energy to the celebrations. Samba schools also take part in the technical tests while finalizing their preparations.
