Four men have been arrested for assaulting a 22-year-old man during carnival in Alphen. The victim became unconscious.
The assault happened on Tuesday evening, February 21. Footage circulated shows the victim being punched and kicked while lying on the ground. This happened on Heuvelstraat near Cultural Center Den Heuvel. Many carnival celebrants have seen it happen. The man became unconscious and was taken to hospital.
The police had launched an investigation and, among other things, viewed CCTV footage. After a call from a local police officer, many witnesses came forward. Two suspects were arrested last month. Two more men were arrested last Wednesday. In total, it concerns three 19-year-old men and a 20-year-old man. They all come from Alphen.
The suspects were released after questioning. The public prosecutor determines whether they have to appear in court later.
