Carnesecchi saves two penalties in two minutes against Pinamonti

The first clearance by the Nerazzurri number one was made in vain by Kolasinac’s invasion of the area, but even on the repetition the home goalkeeper lowered the shutter. What a nightmare for the black and green striker

Until this evening Marco Carnesecchi had never saved a penalty in Serie A out of the four he faced. To break the deadlock he chose the least banal way: repelling two penalties in the space of two minutes from Andrea Pinamonti in injury time in the first half of Atalanta-Sassuolo.

the first rejected

All of this, among other things, in the space of a couple of minutes. Get excited, take it slow. Scalvini’s handball was reported by the VAR to Prontera, who after the check pointed to the spot. First comparison: the striker born in 1999 aimed for the corner to the left of his adventure partner in the Italian youth national teams. The latter, perhaps also mindful of the dozens of challenges in training, got the ball right and blocked it for a corner.

to repeat

Kolasinac’s invasion before the shot, however, pushed the referee to decree a replay. New duel, new angle: this time Pinamonti crosses with his right at mid-height with power from the opposite side, Carnesecchi guesses and rejects. Another time. Gewiss Stadium in delirium. And what a nightmare for Pinamonti.

portcullis

For the Nerazzurri goalkeeper, this is the eleventh penalty saved – according to the official statistics of the two, only one counts, the first being ‘cancelled’ – out of 44 faced in their career. Pinamonti made no mistakes since Udinese-Genoa on 5 July 2020, the only error in his career before tonight out of 19 attempts: the goalkeeper, ironically, was Musso, who Carnesecchi displaced as Atalanta’s starter. That time, however, the Cles native striker had scored on the rebound. This time it was decidedly more bitter.
