Carlo Boszhard arouses annoyance with Kees Stevens, John de Bever’s lover. The presenter has thrown an ugly sneer at the two, but tries to shift the blame to the media.
According to Carlo Boszhard, it was a travesty that the reality soap De Bevers was nominated for the Gouden Televizier-Ring. “More voters than viewers”, he grumbled in his column in Televizier. John de Bever thought that Carlo was a bit uncollegial and Evert Sanwaarden reproached the presenter for being a bit sour.
“Carlo said it himself!”
Carlo himself states that his statements were ‘food for the media’ and that they ‘magnified’ it. According to the presenter, the cold was immediately out of the air when he called John’s lover and manager Kees Stevens.
That call did not make much of an impression on Kees. He thinks it’s silly that Carlo is trying to shift the blame to the media. “He said that everything in an article in De Telegraaf is taken out of context. I then said: ‘But you did write it in your column’, haha”, he says in conversation with the Party.
‘He walked up to us’
Once at the gala, John and Kees ran into the critical Carlo. “Carlo came to us straight away, but he had already called Kees in the morning and said that he hadn’t meant it that way,” says John.
The singer continues: “I just shake hands with everyone. I am always very sober, I have no hatred, no jealousy. Kees is equally in it, so yes: we do not fit into that TV world.”
Calling TV star
Kees thinks it’s special that Carlo called him. “I’m just Kees and he’s Carlo Boszhard, you understand? I still look up to him now and completely as a child. At that time he was the largest in the Netherlands. I think it’s special that Carlo just calls me.”
“But let John and I be sober for the rest and don’t have to do something like the Gouden Televizier-Ring every week, because that doesn’t suit us. But we let the voice of the people have a say, and I think that’s nice.”
