Carl Weathers: Super Bowl commercials featuring him will be changed out of respect

Shortly before his death, he took part in an advertising clip that will no longer be shown.

Actor Carl Weathers passed away unexpectedly in his sleep at his home in Los Angeles on Thursday, February 1st at the age of 76. Shortly before his death, he took a part in an advertising clip for the online sports betting platform “FanDuel”, which was filmed to mark the Super Bowl on February 12th. “FanDuel” has now announced that it will adapt the video out of respect for the bereaved.

A teaser came out three weeks ago

The platform released a teaser of the upcoming ad featuring former “Rocky” actor and former NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski three weeks ago. In this clip, the latter wanders through the desert toward Las Vegas – on his way to doing better the things he missed out on last year during the “FanDuel Kick of Destiny.” He meets Weathers, who drives up on a motorcycle with a sidecar and tells him: “This time you won’t miss.” They then drive further into the desert together.

Following Weathers’ death, FanDuel released a lengthy statement to The Hollywood Reporter about the campaign and its current actions. They state: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Carl Weathers. Throughout his life, Carl was an iconic talent who had a profound impact on the people he worked with on and off screen. FanDuel was fortunate to partner with him during our Super Bowl campaign. We are adjusting our campaign accordingly out of respect for the family during this time of grief.”

It is not yet known what type of change “FanDuel” will make to the video and what it might look like later. It is also not yet clear whether the “Predator” actor was completely removed from advertising.
