Carice van Houten looks down on Jack van Gelder very much. She also thinks that the presenter has a ‘poor form of humor’. “I found you back in the days still funny.”

Jack van Gelder said in Hélène Hendriks’ talk show that he is incredibly annoyed by the Extinction Rebellion demonstrators who sit on the highway. According to the talk show guest, much harder action must be taken against these types of people. “They’re going to have to get over that with a tank sometime, right?” he shouted jokingly.

About the piss

Jack’s comment earned applause in the studio, but Carice van Houten, also a highway sticker herself, is completely upset. She has recorded a video in which she is very derogatory to the presenter and in which she calls him ‘Jack’ and ‘dear Jack’ all the time, as if she knows him personally.

Carice no longer likes Jack. “Hey, sweet Jack. I just say sweet, because you are probably a very sweet man to your family and to your children and to your pets and to your neighbors. I sincerely believe that and I have nothing against you at all. I always thought you were a funny guy back in the days. Um, but you know what I think is a shame, Jack?”

Take a detour

Carice downplays the fact that people are bothered by the highway stickers. “That is of course also a nuisance, I understand that, people sometimes have to take a detour and sometimes there is a traffic jam, that is just annoying…,” she says cynically. “Such a method has also been selected. It has to hurt a little to have an effect.”

She urges Jack to use his brain. “I would delve a little into the question: why are those people there? Think carefully, Jack. I understand that it is difficult to change your mind and that you end up in a situation of cognitive dissonance and that at a certain age it is quite difficult to keep up with the times.”

Old narrative

At Jack’s age – he is 74 – it is difficult, according to Carice, to ‘delve deeply into the facts’. “And that it is easier to stay stuck in an old narrative, but I think it is also fun to keep challenging yourself, Jack, and delve into the facts.”

“Because you know what, Jack? Maybe this will help a bit (put on a flat Amsterdam accent, ed.): we are not in a good position in the match, we are behind, say, 100 – 0. So before you criticize the method, think about why those people are there. Remember that they are there for you too. For your children. (…) So a little homework, Jack.”

Poor humor

Carice is especially angry about his joke. “Pity about that comment about that tank. I think that’s a shame, because I think: Jack… I think it’s a kind of poor sense of humor. Then I think: isn’t there a funnier joke you could make? But maybe it’s also the pressure of such a TV program. Then you should probably just say something nice.”

It’s time for Jack to read some books, she decides. “I hate to say it, but then you also come across as a bit more professional or something. That you have a little more knowledge. That you will be a little better prepared. Joe, bye honey, bye bye.”

Engnek

Johan Derksen has seen Carice’s video and finds it disgusting. Although he finds Jack’s statement a bit strong, he especially gets the jitters from Carice.

“This could make me puke. That creepy pedantic tone of that creepyneck! These people simply break the law forty times in a row and are not punished for it!”
