Caribbean tour reminded Prince William of ‘James Bond vacation’ from the past

“I used to come here as a child with my mother. Snorkeling along shipwrecks from the James Bond movies off the coast of Nassau has given me very vivid memories of your brilliant blue waters,” said William. “For a young lad obsessed with 007, it was the best vacation ever.”

Warmth of inhabitants

William and Catherine were impressed by the beauty of the Bahamas and the warmth of its inhabitants, despite the protests. “Catherine and I have seen the warmth everywhere we went on our first official visit to your beautiful islands,” William said at a reception the night before departure according to HELLO!.

The working visit started a week ago on Saturday in Belize, continued to Jamaica and concluded in the Bahamas. The trip was made as part of Queen Elizabeth’s platinum jubilee. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were forced to cancel a visit to a sustainable cocoa farm in Belize that first Saturday, after persistent protests from locals.

Slavery past

Things didn’t go too smoothly on Tuesday either: Advocates Network, a coalition of Jamaican activists and equality organizations, held a demonstration to raise awareness of the slavery past. The protesters demanded apologies and compensation for the suffering of their ancestors. Jamaica is celebrating nearly sixty years of independence. That’s why it was important to tell Britain “that they got it wrong by enriching themselves through slavery and colonialism,” said a co-organizer of the protest.

Gorgeous dresses

Despite the public criticism of the tour, Prince William and Catherine did enjoy it. As always, Catherine appeared in the most beautiful outfits, including a green glitter ball gown and a bright pink prom dress.
