Before the second half of the season, AS Roma regained contact with the top half of the table. However, a heated duel developed in the city derby.

Mats Hummels and the Italian first division club AS Roma continued their upward trend from the Advent season at the beginning of the new year. With Hummels in the starting line-up for the third time in a row, the former champions remained unbeaten in the duel with city rivals Lazio with a 2-0 (2-0) in the fourth competitive game in a row.

With seven points from the last three league matches, Roma is back within striking distance of the top half of the table at the halfway point of the season.

In the derby, the “Giallorossi” set the course for victory early on. After Lorenzo Pellegrini took the lead (10th minute), Alexis Saelemaekers made it 2-0 just eight minutes later and the decision was made. Lazio ultimately ended the match outnumbered (90+5) after Taty Castellanos was sent off.

This was preceded by a pack formation after a small argument between Hummels and Castellanos. TV images showed that the Argentine pushed the German away at neck level. A person in charge on the bench also saw red.

Previously, referee Luca Pairetto pulled out a yellow card nine times. On the Lazio side, Mario Gila, Mattia Zaccagni, Castellanos, Nicoló Rovella and Boulaye Dia were booked. At AS Roma, Alexis Saelemaekers, Paulo Dybala, Leandro Paredes and Evan N’Dicka saw yellow.
