The Italian market remains in good health, closing on the rise for the third consecutive month. Electric cars and every type of hybrid car are growing
The 2026 of Italian automotive market continues to be positive at the end of the first quarter, which closed with growing registrations 7.6% in the month of March. In detail, there were 185,367 registrations, compared to the 172,271 units registered in the same month of 2025. The first quarter of 2026 is recorded with 484,802 new license plates delivered, equal to a growth of 9.2% over the period January-March 2025. The comparison with the pre-pandemic levels of 2019 also improves (-10%). The positive trend includes electric cars which, after closing March with 16,137 registrations, reached a share of 7.8% in the cumulative January-March against 5.2% in the first quarter of 2025. The plug‑in hybrids, who benefit from the expansion of the offer and from the rules on corporate fringe benefits, with an 8.8% diffusion reached in the first three months of 2026 compared to 4.3% a year ago.
