The accident happened in the direction of Ghent. Two passenger cars collided with each other. As a result, both drivers lost control of their vehicle and then collided with the concrete median strip. One of the cars, a Volkswagen, flipped over and landed on its roof. Emergency services were called to free the victims from their car. When firefighters arrived, both were found to have gotten out of their car under their own power. They were both injured and taken to hospital. Two of the three lanes were blocked for a while, causing a fairly long traffic jam. At one point it was 45 minutes from the cloverleaf in Sint-Niklaas.
