No bike or car, but a canoe. Nature lovers are going to sail on the Hunze near Gasselternijveen today, to reflect on the importance of water during World Water Day.

The final preparations are made, smartphones disappear into a waterproof ton and the canoes slowly sink into the water. Today a long trip is planned on the water, in which there is extensive discussion about its importance.

‘Good to talk about it’

“Without water we are nothing. Without water there is no life. I think a lot of people are not standing still how important it is for us,” says nature guide Tim Horneman, who organizes the tour today. “That is why it is good that we are talking about it, and with this weather and what like -minded people that is beautiful on the water.”

World Water Day is held every year on March 22, in particular to draw attention worldwide for the importance of clean water. The intention is that people will think about it and also consider their own water use.
