Canadian photographer makes spectacular image of wild wave with face: “Looks like Poseidon” | Abroad

Of the more than 10,000 photos Canadian photographer Cody Evans took of some raging waves earlier this month, one immediately caught my eye. For example, he managed to snap a snapshot of a wave that appears to have a man’s face at the perfect moment. The spectacular photo therefore reminds Evans of Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea.

For the past two years, Canadian Cody Evans has regularly traveled to Lake Erie in the Canadian province of Ontario to take photos of the raging waves. The nature photographer also wanted to capture some new images earlier this month. “It was very cold, -11 degrees or so,” he tells the Canadian press. “I observed the water and as soon as there were waves, I took a series of photos.” According to Evans, the waves were up to twenty feet high that day.

When the photographer went through his photos a little later, he could hardly believe his eyes. For example, one of the photographed waves appeared to have a face. “I was really overwhelmed. You often see all kinds of things in waves and clouds, but it was surreal to have it so clearly on screen. That photo undoubtedly stood out,” said Evans proudly.

‘November Winds’

But how can this phenomenon be explained? According to Canadian weather expert Daniel Liota, the giant wave is due to the “November winds.” These are storms over sea areas that have a force of more than 64 km/h. “The Great Lakes are relatively warm this time of year compared to the air above. That results in very fierce storms over the water,” says Liota. Due to the strong gusts of wind, there are of course also more waves. However, the phenomenon is not rare, the expert emphasizes. “It comes back every year,” he says.

Evans, who is determined to make even more striking images. “I will have a camera in my hands until I can’t hold it anymore, I really love it,” said the photographer.
