Canada will supply Ukraine with $6.1 million worth of lethal weapons, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said. Fragment of his speech leads CTV news.

Ottawa will provide a loan of $ 390 million to Kiev. “This will be in addition to a loan of 150 million [канадских долларов] (about $117 million) proposed in January,” the Canadian prime minister explained.

“In addition to financial support, Canada has already taken steps to help Ukraine defend itself. <...> In light of the seriousness of the situation and after negotiations with Ukrainian partners, I approved the provision of lethal weapons and ammunition in the amount of 7.8 million [канадских] dollars ($6.1 million),” Trudeau added, noting that this measure was taken at the request of Ukraine. He recalled that the country had previously supplied Kiev with non-lethal weapons.

Trudeau called the goal of providing military assistance to Ukraine “to keep Russia from aggression.”

He noted that he spoke on the phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to express his support.
