California declares a state of emergency due to heavy rainfall and wind gusts

California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency on Wednesday ahead of the major winter storm that will sweep across the US state on Wednesday and Thursday. The storm is expected to be accompanied by heavy rain and snow showers and strong gusts of wind. Flooding is also taken into account. Evacuation orders are in place for several cities in the north of the state.
