One of the fastest sprinter in the peloton withdraws from cycling. The Australian Caleb Ewan also celebrated success in Germany.
The Australian sprint expert Caleb Ewan surprisingly ended his career as a cycling professional. The 30-year-old announced this on Tuesday on platform X. “It was a wild trip,” wrote Ewan – and looked back on a successful career on the bike: “In the eleven years of my career, I achieved more than I could have already imagined. What previously meant everything to me, but no longer has the same value today.”
The Australian was able to celebrate great success in his time as a professional. Five stage wins at the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia as well as a daily victory at the Vuelta are in his balance sheet. He was also successful in the Cyclassics in Hamburg in 2016.
After two difficult years, Ewan had dared to start a new beginning in winter and joined the British team of Ineos Grenadiers. In spring it seemed to go uphill again: in April he won a stage of the Basque Country Route.
Nevertheless, the 30-year-old now drawn a line. After “long considerations,” Ewan wrote, he decided to end his career. In particular, the experiences in the past two years, especially in the second half of the 2024 season, would have “significantly impaired his relationship with cycling”.
