In recent weeks, the flow and reception of migrants has come under serious pressure. The application center in Ter Apel is overcrowded, people are sheltered in tents and in the open air. This deteriorated situation means that the cabinet has decided today to take measures in three phases.

Crisis emergency care is being expanded. The safety regions have already realized 300 extra places today. This number will be further expanded this weekend. In this way we prevent people from being accommodated in tents or in the open air any longer.

Secondly, Monday will be presented how to accommodate 7,500 status holders in temporary locations in the coming three months. Status holders are people who have received a residence permit because it has been established that they have fled war and violence. They are building a future in our country. There are currently more than 14,000 status holders in COA reception centers.

Thirdly, work is being done on a solution for throughput and housing for beneficiaries after three months. That is not an easy task with the current housing market, the cabinet realizes.

The national crisis structure has been activated for this approach. For example, coordination and decision-making can take place at a high official and political-administrative level: meetings are held with the ministers directly involved and decisions can be taken quickly. Within this structure, there is close collaboration with security regions, municipalities, IND, COA and other partners.

The cabinet will meet again next Monday in a crisis meeting.
