The government has sent a response to the report ‘Grip on information’ to the House of Representatives. This report is about bottlenecks in the provision of information between Parliament and the Cabinet. The government will start working on the recommendations and will continue to discuss them with the House.

The report ‘Grip on information’ was drawn up by the working group on information agreements of the House of Representatives. Through research and discussions, including with government officials and cabinet members, the working group has identified bottlenecks and explored how the information exchange between House and cabinet can be improved. The report addresses, among other things, the timely provision of information, the timely answering of parliamentary questions, more direct contact between civil servants and MPs, working agreements surrounding oral question time and the active publication of decision notes. Recommendations are addressed to both the House of Representatives and the Cabinet.

Interaction between cabinet and parliament

According to the government, the report contributes to the common goal of a strong democratic constitutional state, based on high-quality democratic decision-making. Adequate information provision is necessary. It is important that the cabinet and Chambers work together to make agreements that contribute to better and more effective cooperation in practice. The government would like to discuss this further with the House, starting on Thursday, January 23 during the committee debate on Information and working agreements.
