The Hague Insiders report to De Telegraaf that an agreement was given in the Council of Ministers on Friday from the Ministry of Finance – after a long one -soil – on the ‘follow -up package’ of outgoing minister Femke Wiersma (agriculture).

Painful measures for farmers

This package contains a list of measures that Wiersma announced in the spring with her ‘starting package’: extra money for voluntary stoppers schemes, innovations, but also painful measures such as setting zones around nature reserves De Peel and the Veluwe where hundreds of farmers and companies have to reduce substantial stations. This is possible by, among other things, stopping ‘voluntary’ or by moving, for example. 5 billion euros had already been reserved for this and the remaining part of 2.6 billion is now also being transferred.

Administrative fight between VVD and BBB

In the past period, Ministers Wiersma (BBB) and Heinen (Finance, VVD) have held a considerably administrative fight for the billions. Behind the scenes with the two remaining government parties there was also a lot of division about this. At BBB it was told that the VVD would not a success on the nitrogen policy. At VVD, on the other hand, Wiersma wanted to prevent it from having painful measures for the supporters, while according to liberals they are needed to pull the file smoothly.

Worrying

There was a lot of discussion in particular about the ‘assurance’: the Ministry of Finance wants the money to be spent effectively and the granting of permits can actually start again. In The Hague, this is also due to because knowledge institutions and the Planning Bureau for the living environment have been outlined, but certainly also outlined risks at the current government approach. Nevertheless, the parties were released on Friday. The entire package is made public on Prinsjesdag.
