The beach of Egmond aan Zee was briefly in commotion after walkers came across ‘something floundering’ this evening. Beach explorer Marco Snijders – a well-known name locally for these types of alarms – was called and quickly initiated a rescue plan for what turned out to be a white-beaked dolphin. He was not alone in his mission. Video footage shows how bystanders try to keep the animal wet and cool with soaked pieces of textile and buckets of water.

Snijders received a call at 8:05 p.m., he tells NH. Bystanders saw something struggling at the high tide line. “I asked if the animal was still alive, because then it was urgent. So I took action.” SOS Dolfijn was then called, and Snijders rushed to the animal.
