The suspect in the stabbing Wednesday morning in Tungelroy was arrested with the help of local residents.
The fugitive was hit by a helpful motorist, after which the police were able to arrest him.

After the stabbing, the suspect had locked himself in the house on the Tungelderschans, but ran away when officers entered the house. An officer was killed during the short chase. He suffered minor injuries as a result.

Trauma helicopter
In addition to an ambulance, a trauma helicopter was also called in to provide first aid to the victim. The man was eventually taken to hospital in Maastricht with serious injuries.
Identity
Police have yet to say anything about the relationship between the suspect and the victim. “We are reluctant to do so. At the moment, attention is first focused on the victim, only when the people are heard, we may come out with more information,” a spokesperson said.
